Technology, public help lead to identification in fatal crash

The Excelsior Springs Police Department has identified the vehicle involved in a recent fatal hit-and-run.Detectives said identifying the vehicle that killed 35-year-old Mary Levingston was a development made possible through a combination of advanced technology, interagency teamwork and assistance from residents who shared camera footage from the area.Levingston was found deceased on the shoulder of the 1000 block of Fredericksburg Road shortly after 5:59 p.m. on Nov. 12, when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a body in the roadway. Preliminary findings determined she died from blunt force trauma to the head consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
