Three Republicans vie in primary to move on to Nov. in assessor race

LIBERTY – Three people seek the assessor seat in the Clay County assessor race Aug. 4. They are Deputy Assessor Tracy Baldwin, 48, Holt; Chris Lonsdale, 24, Liberty; and Bill Keefer, 52, Kearney. The winner will face the lone Democrat, Bruce Cantwell, Liberty, in the Nov. 3 general elections. Cantwell is unopposed in the primary. After a 24-year run, Assessor Cathy Rinehart does not seek re-election. She instead is running for the Clay County Western District Commission seat. Each candidate in the contested race for assessor received a questionnaire containing the same questions. Lonsdale did not answer.
