Tough decision awaits board
COMMENTARYExcelsior Springs school board members have a tough decision to make next week.As The Standard recently reported, the Excelsior Springs School District is considering changing conferences, with the board set to vote on the matter Feb. 11. If approved, Excelsior Springs would leave the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference in 2026 – less than five years after rejoining it. The Tigers would then compete in the Midland Empire Conference (MEC).One reason it’s a tough decision is because of logistical issues. As The Standard reported, the MEC includes Cameron, three schools in St. Joseph, Chillicothe, Savannah and Maryville. Cameron is only 30 minutes away. The St. Joseph schools (Benton, LeBlond and Lafayette), however, are roughly an hour away. It’s about 75 minutes one way to Chillicothe and Savannah. Maryville is 90 minutes.
