EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The city will help pay for the Metropolitan Area Regional Radio System, or MARRS, used by the city’s public safety personnel. On Jan. 19, the City Council agreed to lease space on the city’s tower at Siloam Mountain to AT&T. Police Chief Clinton Reno explained in a Dec. 17 memo to city leaders that AT&T will pay a $2,000 monthly rental fee, with the agreement structure to last 20 years – five years initially, followed by four regular renewal periods, also five years long. In the works since the 180-foot tower entered use in 2019, the deal is new territory for Reno and his department. “We’ve never been in the tower-leasing business,” he said when talking with city leaders during the council’s Zoom meeting. “I know Public Works leases a lot of space on the water towers, but we’ve never done it on a public safety tower.” Reno stated the agreement would benefit public safety personnel and AT&T users, particularly downtown’s residents and visitors. “That…
