Toys collected at annual American Legion breakfast
For decades, the American Legion has assisted the United States Marines with Toys for Tots Collection drives. This year, the Excelsior Springs Sons of the American Legion collected more than $1,000 to donate to the cause at their second annual Toys for Tots biscuits and gravy breakfast.
According to legion. org, since the program’s inception in 1947, the partnership between the United States Marines Toys for Tots Foundation and the American Legion has distributed upward of 604 million toys to 274 million needy children.
Through the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, the program organizes local charity drives in more than 2,000 counties across the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands.
American Legion Post 236 Commander Chris Stull noted that each person who attended this year’s event had an opportunity to donate a toy worth at least $10 to receive a meal or get the chance to purchase a dinner outright, with the…
