EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Restaurants are among the businesses getting pounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, but owner Brenda Fudge said Dec. 5 she still gets by at Ray’s Lunch, 231 E. Broadway, Excelsior Springs. Since opening in 1932 with hamburgers and “sandwiches of all kinds,” Ray’s Lunch has weathered the Great Depression, World War II, various other wars, the economy-ravaging Arab oil embargo and changing menus – people can get breakfast at Ray’s Lunch, too, Fudge said. Some of the photos on the walls reflect the history of Ray’s, named for the first owner, Ray Miller. Other items show respect to Pepsi products. And there are pop culture items, including music recorded on vinyl disks embedded in the floor and comic books on one of the walls.
