Voters get glimpse of possible new school

A crowd of about 50 community members, administrators and teachers gathered at Lewis Elementary recently to tour the 70-year-old building and learn more about a proposition that, if passed, would allow a new school to be built. Many in attendance took self-guided tours down hallways, into classrooms and common areas to view the current condition of the school. The crowd later gathered in the gym in order to hear a presentation about Proposition Lewis, which will appear on the April ballot for consideration. Excelsior Springs School District Communications Director Dr. Mark Bullimore described Proposition Lewis as “a no tax rate increase that will get us a new Lewis Elementary if passed. We’re looking at doing a tax levy transfer. It’s like taking money from our savings account and moving it to our checking account to pay for a new school.
