Water issue for city pool project
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The city and Lincoln, Nebraska-based Olsson Inc. are exploring ways to address stormwater issues that might result from the expansion of the Excelsior Springs Community Center.
During an Aug. 30 special meeting, the City Council approved a change order to pay Olsson $6,840 and “reimbursable expenses” to conduct a topographical survey of Century Park.
Per an Aug. 26 memo from center Director Jesse Hall to city leaders, the survey will explore how the park might be used in diverting storm water from the center.
If used, Century Park would “minimize or eliminate the need for a retention/detention basin” at the center and alleviate “existing downstream water issues beyond the existing pond” at the park, Hall stated.
As the memo also stated, the survey is part of the second phase of construction to expand the center. That expansion includes building an outdoor swimming pool....
