WHFPD Auxiliary supports teachers, families

From spotlighting local teachers to easing the burden of school supply shopping, the Wood Heights Fire Protection District Auxiliary (WHFPDA) is rolling out two separate efforts this August aimed at supporting education in the community.That willingness to pivot has inspired a new initiative this year: a teacher gift basket giveaway. The baskets are filled with items the group thought teachers might enjoy or find useful. Donations have come from local businesses and individuals, including Wabash BBQ, Ray’s Diner, Busy Bean Play Café, Infinity Custom Designs, Faith & Flicker Candle and residents LaJuania Dorman and Rene McKiddie.“A couple of the firefighters wound up at a public auction where pallets of back-to-school supplies were being auctioned off,” explained WHFPDA President Kari McCullough. “We were able to win two pallets and when we were going through them, we found some lesson planners.
