EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – A wreck that left a 6-year-old child dead also left a 4-year-old child, two teenagers and a 24-year-old man with serious injuries.

The wreck occurred about 7:35 p.m. Aug. 20 at 805 E. Seybold Road, Excelsior Springs, based on reports and comments from the Excelsior Springs Police Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol.

The information states Brandon J. Holder, 24, Excelsior Springs, drove a 2005 Ford Focus east on Seybold while carrying four passengers – 18-year-olds Judith L. Happy of Excelsior Springs, and Zachary D. Mosley of Buckner, and the two children who have not been identified. The 6-year-old would have entered kindergarten next week.

The patrol’s report states the Focus traveled off the right side of the road, went into a spin, struck a parked 2007 Chevrolet truck, traveled off the left side of the road, returned to the road, drove off the right side of the road, passed between two barns and stopped in a brush pile. The patrol has not yet released what caused the Focus to go into a spin.

Coroner Zachary St. John pronounced the 6-year-old dead at the scene.

An air ambulance transported two victims and a ground ambulance took two victims to area hospitals, Excelsior Springs Police Department information states.

In addition to the police and patrol, personnel from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and from Excelsior Springs fire and ambulance responded.
