‘Zombie drug’ enters Clay County

The ‘Zombie Drug’ has reached the Clay County area. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is starting to see the drug named Xylazine make an appearance in the area during recoveries. Xylazine, also known as ‘Tranq’ or ‘Zombie Drug,’ is a non-opiate sedative, analgesic and muscle relaxant that has only been authorized for veterinary use in the United States. “This is a prescription veterinarians can give to ranchers or cattle owners,” stated CCSO Sergeant Fahrmeier. “It is made for larger animals such as horses or cattle.” While it is made for animals, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) states it is readily available for purchase on other internet sites in liquid or powder form, often with no association to the veterinary profession nor requirements to prove a legitimate need. “A kilogram of Xylazine powder can be purchased online from Chinese suppliers with common prices ranging from $6 to $20 per kilogram,” the DEA reports. “At this low price, its use as an adulterant may…
