Tigers look to end skid in boys soccer
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Coach Zac Ganzer and his Excelsior Springs varsity boys soccer team are going through a streak they probably would like to end.
Through Tuesday, the Tigers were on an eight-game losing streak. During that span, they had scored only four times and given up 26 goals.
On Tuesday, the Tigers fell to visiting Pleasant Hill 4-1. The defeat followed a string of losses that included Ruskin, 3-2, Oct. 15; Odessa, 1-0, Oct. 13; and Harrisonville, 8-0, Oct. 8, after an Oct. 6 1-0 double-overtime loss to Center.
“Mason Wartner and Brendan Blackburn are putting together a lot of good runs out front,” Ganzer said. “We are just seeing a team that is young and maturing and figuring out how to make those runs open things up with a true finisher.”
Wartner, a freshman forward, scored the lone goal for the Tigers against Pleasant Hill and scored a goal against Ruskin. Junior defender Ethan Edwards picked up the other goal against Ruskin.
