ES netters get wins in singles, doubles
At press time, Excelsior Springs was still seeking its first team win in girls tennis.
In terms of singles and doubles matches, however, some Tigers have their first win.
Last week, Excelsior Springs got four wins in singles and doubles play – two in a Sept. 5 dual loss to Fort Osage, one in a Sept. 6 loss to Oak Park and another in a Sept. 7 loss to Belton.
“We keep challenging our girls with teams that we know are going to be really good,” coach Richie Marsh said. “Each one of them continues to improve, even though they may not be seeing immediate results with the scores.”
The Tigers got a doubles win and a singles win their 7-2 road loss to Fort Osage. Juniors Shelby Stodden and Malaya Tedesco won the No. 1 doubles match 7-5.
In other doubles results, junior Megan Riegel and firstyear high schooler Lainey Smith dropped the No. 2 match 6-4. Junior Rebecca McDade and first-year high schooler Olivia Deere battled but fell 6-4 in the No. 3 spot.
