Hospital series explores aging, pain management

A change in memory, balance or emotional well-being can leave someone wondering whether what they are experiencing is simply part of getting older. Excelsior Springs Hospital plans to address that distinction during its September Health and Wellness program.

Clinical and Community Educator Tina Cook will present “Healthy Aging: Understanding Changes as We Age” at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 17 at the Excelsior Springs Community Center. As part of National Healthy Aging Month, the session will provide general health education aimed at helping attendees stay informed, active and engaged as they age.

“We want to help people understand aging is a natural process and knowing what to expect can help people stay healthier and more independent,” said Cook.

The presentation will address strength and balance, memory, hearing and vision, sleep and emotional well-being. Cook will also discuss practical ways to stay active and engaged, along with when a change may be worth sharing with a health care provider.
