Arbuta Sue Dace, 97, of Excelsior Springs passed away Sept. 28, 2024.
Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs, with a visitation at 1 p.m., a funeral service at 2 and a graveside service following at Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.
Arbie was born in 1927 in Wakenda to Oma and Olive Gray. She was one of 11 children who grew up in this small town near Carrollton. In 1943, the family moved to Excelsior Springs, where she graduated in 1945 from high school.
In 1954, she moved to Southern California and worked at Douglas Aircraft as a scheduler. Many years later, she would meet and marry the handsome new guy at work, Honace Dace. They retired in 1977 to Excelsior Springs after the birth of their only grandchild, Kyle Mason.
They enjoyed their retirement with camping and road trips to many parts of the United States, including Alaska, always with family and always having a good time. They attended the West Tracy Church of Christ in Excelsior Springs.
Arbie will be missed by her family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Honace Dace; parents; and nine brothers and sisters, Cleo Gray, Phyllis Romazon, Don Gray, Melba Rouse, Shirley Lowry, Bonnie Farris, Iris Gray, Trennie Gray and Rex Gray.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Hearn, from her first marriage; grandson, Kyle Mason; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Mason; brother, Richard Gray; and many nieces and nephews.
