The Excelsior Standard, Apr. 14, 2023

Jan. 19, 1931-April 10, 2023 Dixie Fern Baldwin, age 92, of Kearney quietly passed away on April 10, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Dixie was born Jan. 19, 1931, to Albert P. and Mildred E. (Vinzant) Morehouse in Pickering. She attended Nodaway County rural schools and graduated in 1949 from Horace Dixie Baldwin

Mann High School.

Dixie attended Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville. She graduated on May 28, 1954, with a degree in education.

After college, Dixie taught school in St. Joseph, Columbia and Excelsior Springs, where she retired in 1992.

Dixie filled her retirement by continuing to be a wonderful mother to her children and spending her free time with her grandchildren. She was the go-to family seamstress, and nothing could beat a fresh loaf of “Nammy bread,” as her grandchildren referred to her. Her legacy will live on through her handwritten recipe cards and love of sewing everyone is sure to remember.

Dixie leaves behind her children, Lon Baldwin (Wendy), Linda Keller (Mike) and Brian Baldwin (Kim); seven grandchildren, Eric Baldwin, Brady Baldwin, Jessa Baldwin, Lauren Thomas (Blake), Jarod Keller, Daulton Baldwin and Brock Baldwin; and one great grandchild, Lincoln Thomas. Other survivors include her brother-inlaw and sister-in-law, William and Dorothy Baldwin; and nieces and nephews Kelly, John and Kirk Baldwin, and Tim and Scott Morehouse. Dixie also enjoyed a lifelong friendship with Sue Rupp.

Honoring her wishes, the family will hold a private celebration of her life.
