The Excelsior Standard, June 26, 2026

Joseph “Joe” Marshall Howard, 54, passed away suddenly on June 11, 2026.

He was born March 13, 1972, in North Kansas City.

Joe grew up in Mosby, where he lived until marrying Tina, his beloved wife of 34 years. The couple made their home in Excelsior Springs, loving each other deeply through all of life’s good times and bad ones.

Joe graduated from Excelsior Springs High School. He worked as an electrician for many years and later transitioned to a career as a semi-truck driver before being called home.

He accepted Christ as a young child while attending Mosby Baptist Church. Throughout his life, his faith in Jesus never wavered, guiding him as he attended the Crescent Lake Christian Center and Prathersville Bible Church with his family.

Joe faced a lifelong struggle with alcoholism following the tragic, early loss of his best friend, Dennis, at age 23; and later his father, John Howard, to cancer at age 57. Despite those battles, he found joy in going to Kansas City Chiefs games, barbecuing with his wife and son, fishing with his father and brothers, boating, shooting pool and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife, the aforementioned Tina Howard; and their son, Brad Howard, both of Excelsior Springs. He also is survived by his mother, Melana Howard; brothers, Mark and Adam Howard; and sister, Amy Howard, all of Versailles.

He is reunited in his heavenly home with his father, John; and recently deceased brother, Tom Howard, age 49.

He is deeply loved and sorely missed. His celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at the Siloam Park gazebo and playground, Area 1, located at 607 Ellsworth St., Excelsior Springs. The memorial service will be followed by an afternoon cookout and outdoor games to honor Joe’s memory.
