LaJuana Jean Smelcer, 67, passed away March 15, 2020, at her daughter’s home in Holt, Missouri. LaJuana was born June 18, 1952, in Augusta, Georgia. She was the daughter of Howard Banks Braswell and Margie Jean (Wood) Butler.

LaJuana attended high school in Hephzibah, Georgia, and later went to Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City, Missouri. She worked for Sprint from 1982-2002, most of that time as an executive secretary. She lived much of her adult life in the Lawson/ Excelsior Springs area. She was a member of the Old Union Church east of Lawson.

LaJuana was a committed follower of Jesus and used her many medical challenges as opportunities to witness for her faith to medical personnel who provided care and treatment. She distributed a host of “Jesus Calling” books to people with whom she shared her faith.

LaJuana is survived by her husband Terry of Lawson, Missouri. She is also survived by a daughter, Shannon Bosley and husband Mike of Holt, and their son, Tim Smelcer, and wife, Meg ,of Huron, Ohio; sisters, Maria Hodges, Lincolnton, Georgia, Angela Appleton (Dan), Daphne, Alabama, Denise Thompson (Nick), Blythewood, South Carlonia, and Patricia Thompson (Randall), Appling, Georgia; and brother William H. Pierce Jr., Blythewood, South Carolina. She leaves five grandchildren: Ashley Wilson, Dana Elam, Kyrsten Smelcer, Kinsey Smelcer and Joel Smelcer. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joseph Mark Pierce.

Funeral Service took place at 11 a.m., Monday, March 23, at Old Union Church in Lawson, followed by burial at Old Union Cemetery.
