Roland Parker

“Sonny” Parker never met a person he couldn’t talk to and befriend, always engaging and helpful, honest as the day is long. Roland Dean Parker, aged 80, who spent most of his life in Excelsior Springs, passed away peacefully March 25, 2026, at his home in Liberty with family. He was born Sept. 16, 1945, in Kansas City to Glenn and Venita Parker of Excelsior Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, David Lee (Linda) Parker of Warsaw. Survivors include his life companion of 28 years, Phyllis Barham; younger sister, Glenna Sue (Dave) Wahlenmaier of Edgerton; son, Michael (Kerrie) Parker of Normal, Ill.; and daughter, Michelle (Christopher) Wilburn of Liberty. Pappa also leaves behind six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

He was a highly successful, 30-year commercial and residential realtor for REMAX Area Real Estate in Excelsior Springs.

In 1988, he brought the American Italian Pasta Co. to town. He also brought the Douglas and Lomason Co., currently known as Magna Seating, to Excelsior Springs shortly thereafter, as well as Waller Trucking Co. Inc.

He was a partner with CHAP Land Co. LLC and co-developer of the Vintage Plaza in Excelsior Springs.

He was elected to the Excelsior Springs City Council, serving for many years. In addition, he served on the City Planning & Zoning Board, served one term as mayor of Excelsior Springs and served on the Excelsior Springs Hospital board.

He was the owner of Sonny Parker Inc., a partner in the local agriculture community, giving of himself and establishing a legacy for honesty and service that was a foundation for his young family.

He started his career working in the Parts Department at Westfall-O’Dell. Later, he worked with his brother and father at Bill Bill Allen Allen in North Kansas City.

He was a farmer in Orrick. Sonny was a longtime member of the Excelsior Springs Golf Course. He enjoyed billiards in the basement and fishing at Truman Lake.

Sonny had so many memories of happy hour spent with family and friends, usually grilling on the patio.

His love and his heart were always for and in Excelsior Springs. The family offers a special thank you to the Excelsior Springs Hospital for all the excellent care and attention provided to him.

A celebration of life will be announced for this summer, when all family members are able to attend.

Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery near his parents and overlooking the Vintage.
