Excelsior Springs boys grapplers prep for district competition
The Tigers won’t have to travel far this weekend to pursue their dreams of qualifying for state in boys wrestling.
The Tigers are hosting their qualifying tournament, with Class 2 District 4 competition slated for Friday and Saturday at Excelsior Springs High School. The top four finishers in each weight class will advance to Class 2 state competition, scheduled for Feb. 22 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
Excelsior Springs will have a full lineup for districts. Sophomore Wyett Shipman (16-14) will be the 106-pounder. First-year high schooler Cooper Collins (34-6) will wrestle at 113.
Sophomore Dominick Betts (8-20) will represent Excelsior Springs at 120. Junior Micah Danner (18-6), wrestling at 126, will look to make his third trip to state.
Like Danner, Ryne Marcum (27-4) is pursuing a return trip to state. Marcum, however, is seeking his second trip. He qualified last season as a freshman.
Marcum will wrestle at 132.
