I don’t normally write about sports, as my usual stories focus on city council meetings, court proceedings or features about community members. However, for the third year in a row, I happily found myself at Chiefs training camp with my press badge on, notebook ready and my heart open to whatever I might learn, and I do mean learn.While I’ll always be a Denver Broncos fan first and a Chiefs antagonist forever, there’s something deeply human about watching people chase excellence under a hot August sun.It’s easy to reduce sports to wins and losses, especially when you root for a team that hasn’t beaten Patrick Mahomes since what feels like the Reagan administration. It’s easy to joke about bad calls and blown leads, to scream about flags or fumble recoveries that don’t go your way. That’s part of being a fan, but training camp strips all of that away.
