Is writing a column important?

While reaching to the stars from my office chair between meetings and interviews, I have a few minutes to catch my breath. Yet, I will continue to write even if there is nothing to write about and no discussions to tend to for the next few hours. Sometimes, finding something to write about for my weekly column can be difficult because some of the thoughts or random things encountered are not really audienceworthy. So, today, the explanation is warranted about what a column is and why a writer needs it. A column is a place for a writer to have some freedom. Some of us write about politics, or past stories in our lives, the community we work in or, in my case, the occasional random event, thought or encounter that makes my head turn sideways (like those cute puppies that get confused when they hear a strange sound). For some writers, their column is an open platform to be honest and express their skills and abilities, intelligence or just a place to vent about life. A column offers…
