Excelsior Springs has its first split this season in varsity volleyball.

Competing Sept. 12 in the Chillicothe Invitational Volleyball Tournament, the Tigers finished a two-set match with Carrollton 1-1. Excelsior Springs, however, dropped its matches with St. Paul Lutheran of Concordia and the host school, both 2-0.

The Excelsior Springs volleyballers were 0-7-1 overall entering Wednesday’s Midland Empire Conference (MEC) meeting with Bishop LeBlond in St. Joseph. They were set to finish this week’s schedule Thursday at Lexington.

NO COMEBACK NEEDED

Orrick didn’t need to stage a comeback to get its second win this season in varsity 8-man football.

The Bearcats led 8-0 after one quarter and 14-0 at halftime of their Sept. 11 road meeting with the Keytesville/ Northwestern of Mendon/Brunswick co-op. They followed that with a 20-6 second half.
