ES girls grapplers drop seesaw dual; 12th at conference

Excelsior Springs came up short in a seesaw Jan. 11 girls wrestling dual with visiting Kearney. The Tigers’ 46-36 Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division loss started with Kearney winning a match by forfeit. Sophomore Izabella Morgan answered for Excelsior Springs with a first-period win by fall against Stella Deprenger in the 105-pound match. Justus Sutton, a first-year high schooler at Excelsior Springs, dropped the 110 match to Riley Walker. The Bulldogs then won the 115 match by forfeit because Excelsior Springs was open at that weight. At 120, Excelsior Springs junior Jaylenn Hudlemeyer dropped an 8-0 decision to Savannah McDowell. McDowell scored two three-point near falls in the second period and a two-point near fall in the third. Excelsior Springs won the next two matches by pin.
