ES netters sweep Center, hit skid before hosting invitational

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The varsity tennis team has seen both sides of the win-loss column the past few weeks. On Sept. 9, the netters swept visiting Center 9-0. Junior Anna Selby claimed an 8-0 win in No. 1 singles. Seniors Amanda Mayfield and Kaylie Como won 8-0 in No. 2 and 3 singles. Junior Emma Kern won 8-2 in No. 4 singles. Junior Lauren Mueller won 8-0 in No. 5 singles. Freshman Megan Riegel claimed a forfeit victory in the sixth spot. In doubles, Selby and Mayfield took the No. 1 match 8-1. Como and Kern picked up an 8-1 win in No. 2 doubles. Mueller and Riegel finished it off with an 8-0 win in No. 3 doubles. The tide turned Sept. 9 at Warrensburg, with Excelsior Springs falling 8-1. Selby fought her way to an 8-4 loss. Mayfield, Como, Kern and Riegel all fell 8-1. Mueller dropped her No. 5 singles match 8-3.
