ESFA third-graders, sixth-graders claim home victories

There was no lack of youth league football on Sept. 16 at Tiger Stadium. Starting with a 9 a.m. game, the Excelsior Springs Football Association staged gridiron games into the afternoon. Excelsior Springs’ third-grade team won that first game 25-0. Ben Brown started the scoring for the Tigers with a TD run. Kade Chilson followed that with a 70-yard TD run. Other contributors included Christian Bautista, whose pick six helped seal it. The Excelsior Springs fourth-grade team fell to Odessa 14-0. “Our offense needs to continue to block through the whistle in order to be successful, while the defense needs to focus on finishing the play,” coach Mike McCoy said. The fifth-grade Tigers lost to Richmond 25-0. “We were able to drive the ball well, but we had too many drive fumbles, penalties and mistakes that prevented us from finishing in the end zone,” coach Anthony Circo said.
