Excelsior Springs softballers go 2-1 in big-run games
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers have won by a lot of runs lately in varsity softball.
They have lost by a lot of runs, too.
Last week, Excelsior Springs went 1-1, defeating Cameron 11-4 Aug. 30 at home and then falling 9-1 Sept. 2 on the road to Truman in Independence. The Tigers then cruised to a 15-5 win Tuesday against visiting William Chrisman of Independence.
A big inning drove the Tigers to their win over Cameron. After scratching across two runs in the fourth and yielding two runs in the top of the fifth, they exploded for nine runs on eight hits in the bottom of the fifth. Those hits included two triples by sophomore Bailey Carder and singles by seniors Mallory Millsap and Ariana Williams; juniors Daelyn Williams, Aracely Lopez and Karli Shipman; and sophomore Chloe Carlyle.
The Dragons scored their final two runs in the seventh.
