IT’S RALLY TIME

Coach Richie Marsh has a reason for why his Excelsior Springs varsity girls tennis team went 3-1 last week in duals: The girls kept rallies going.

“We have been challenging the girls to try and have minimum four-hit rallies with their opponents and it worked well last week,” Marsh stated.

The Excelsior Springs girls opened the week with two Sept. 14 duals, cruising past Benton of St. Joseph 8-1 and falling 9-0 to Maryville.

Marsh expects Maryville to be a Midland Empire Conference (MEC) and district title contender.

“We were a little shocked at the pace of their hits, as they came back to our girls much faster than some of the previous matches,” he wrote. “We will be better prepared, if we see them in districts in October.”

Excelsior Springs then downed Bishop LeBlond 6-3 Sept. 15 in St. Joseph and cruised past Holden 9-0 Sept. 17 at Excelsior Springs.
