Excelsior Springs volleyball: A look back at the wins, losses and more
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers had to fight their way through losing streaks and a tough schedule this varsity volleyball season.
After opening by sweeping St. Joseph Lafayette 3-0, the Tigers dropped a fiveset thriller to Cameron that started a fourmatch losing streak. They then picked up a four-set win Sept. 17 at Lexington before struggling to get back in the win column over the next seven matches.
Excelsior Springs broke that sevenmatch skid Oct. 22 with a four-set win over visiting Van Horn to cap the regular season. The Tigers then swept St. Joseph Lafayette in Class 4 District 16 play before getting swept by Platte County to finish 4-12.
Platte County, a state semifinalist, was among several district champions the Tigers faced. Another was Maryville. The Spoofhounds went on to win the Class 3 state title. Yet another was Lawson, the Class 2 fourth-place team at state.
