Excelsior Springs’ cross country teams headed north last week. And southeast. The Tigers’ northern trip took place on Sept. 19, when they ran at the Duane Kimble Invitational in St. Jospeh. Excelsior Springs placed two runners in the top 20 of the varsity girls race: Braylissa Whitworth and Kirsten Stout. Whitworth, a senior, finished 15th in 25 minutes, 30.4 seconds; and Stout, a sophomore, took 16th in 25:31.5. In other girls results, senior Chole Albertson placed 28th in 28:17.1 and sophomore Lillah Shue took 42nd in 38:22.8. Junior Silas O’Dell was the Tigers’ top varsity boys finisher, placing 34th in 21:39.9. Sophomore William Tade also ran for the Excelsior Springs boys, finishing 45th in 22:39.2. The southeasterly trip took place on Sept. 23, when the Tigers competed in the Blue Division at the fifth annual Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, where Stout, Katie Houck and Kennedi Winford each ran personal bests.
