Football remains on Danneman’s mind after district defeat

Excelsior Springs coach Jake Danneman can’t stop thinking about football.“It never stops,” he said Monday. “There are still going to be many sleepless nights here, coming up, and it never really subsides. It’s how a football coach is.”Such was the case after the Tigers’ 4914 Oct. 30 road loss to Van Horn in the Class 4 District 8 Tournament. During the weekend following the seasonending defeat, Danneman was drawing diagrams on his grease board, trying to determine how Excelsior Springs (28) could’ve played the Falcons (7-3) differently, in terms of personnel and schemes, he said.One thing Excelsior Springs could’ve done differently was find a way to counter Van Horn’s physicality, Danneman suggested.“It was pretty apparent that they were physically stronger than us and could pretty much do what they wanted to – to us,” he said.The Tigers also could’ve made big plays on both sides of the ball, according t...
