Girls grapplers win thriller dual; sixth at ’Tonka tourney
The Tigers closed the dual portion of their girls wrestling season with a thriller. Driven by open victories, Excelsior Springs edged Raytown South 28-27 Feb. 1 at Ray South. The Tigers received four forfeit wins. The Cardinals had only one.
In on-the-mat results, the Tigers picked up just one win, with sophomore Izabella Morgan getting a 15-2 major decision over Rihanna Ricks at 105 pounds. Gabby Scrivener, a first-year high schooler at Excelsior Springs, fell to Zayla Vann by pin in the first period at 140; sophomore Lauren Park lost an 8-3 decision to Amiah Santos at 145; and Adrien Crawley, a first-year high schooler, lost by fall to Louise Eskina at 170.
The victory preceded the Tigers’ participation in the Winnetonka Tournament. Excelsior Springs, one of 19 schools at the Feb. 4 competition, placed sixth with 94.5 points – 1.5 points more than seventh-place Winnetonka.
