St. Michael did a lot of great things today.”~ Zac GanzerExcelsior Springs’ string of top-four state finishes in varsity boys soccer has ended.A 2-0 loss to St. Michael the Archangel Nov. 16 at Tiger Stadium in the Class 2 state quarterfinals snapped the program’s streak at three seasons. Excelsior Springs finished third at state in 2021 and 2022, and fourth in 2023 – all in Class 2.“We have to give credit where credit is due,” coach Zac Ganzer said. “St. Michael did a lot of great things today.”The Tigers played a solid game, but the Guardians found ways to score and get the win, Ganzer said.St. Michael the Archangel, however, couldn’t find ways to score during the first half.
