Jacob Schmidt was the top Tiger for the Excelsior Springs varsity boys golf team at two tournaments last week. The junior was the club’s top finisher at a tournament hosted by Oak Park on April 25 at Paradise Pointe Golf Club in Smithville, then at the Richmond Invitational on April 28 at Shirkey Golf Club. Schmidt shot a career-best 79 place to finish third among 71 players at Paradise Pointe. Sophomore Landon Biermann also cracked the top 15, shooting a 90 to finish in a tie for 12th. In other team results, senior Ryan Gluhm shot a 100, junior Gage Simmons shot a 105 and sophomore Tayvion Kennedy shot a 106. Schmidt’s 84 helped the Tigers shoot a combined 362 and finish ninth among 21 schools at the Richmond Invitational. He placed 19th among 102 individual finishers.
