Special Olympics event fosters diversity
Excelsior Springs has taken measures to promote community unity and foster appreciation for diversity.
The Special Olympics Track and Field event was a remarkable display of community unity and commitment to inclusivity, brought to life through the collaborative efforts of the Excelsior Springs Community Center (ESCC) and Excelsior Springs High School’s (ESHS), Student Council (STUCO). This joint initiative warmly welcomed individuals with disabilities aged 12 to 21 from Excelsior Springs and the surrounding communities, ensuring that everyone felt a part of the area.
“The goal of this event was to make these individuals feel special,” said ESCC Recreation Coordinator Alexis Blankenship.
“They may not always get as many opportunities as the abled body kids, so this was something special to highlight them.”
Last week, the Special Olympics Track and Field event featured 11 exciting events.
