Tigers eye state competition in track and field
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – A crop of 88 athletes are out for track and field at Excelsior Springs High School. And they, along with coach Jonah Albertson, have set the bar high for this season.
“Our goal is to get our athletes past the sectional meet and to the state meet,” Albertson said. “We have had a great start to the season and we will continue to strive for personal bests so we will be at our peak around the district and state competitions.”
Athletes looking to qualify for state include eight sectional qualifiers from 2021. Four of them are on Excelsior Springs’ girls 3,200-meter team, consisting of seniors Jacey Brewer, Macey Chaney, Ava Ishmael and Lacey Miller, which finished sixth in Class 4 sectional competition, missing state by just 1.5 seconds.
