Tigers get game-like reps while hosting boys soccer jamboree

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers got some gamelike action on Aug. 20, when they hosted Kearney and Chillicothe in a preseason boys soccer jamboree. “It’s always nice to be able to line up against other schools before games actually begin,” Excelsior Springs coach Zac Ganzer said. “It gives us the opportunity to see what game speeds are really like, so our guys are able to understand what they need to be prepared for.” Tiger Stadium was the site for three 35-minute scrimmages, starting with Excelsior Springs facing Kearney. Kearney scored from 10 yards out in the 20th minute. Junior goalkeeper Braxton Moffett had three saves for the Tigers. Against Chillicothe, the Tigers failed to finish some early chances, but they got two goals late. Senior Ethan Edwards scored in the 32nd minute from 20 yards out and followed that by scoring with 54 seconds remaining from 18 yards out to help give the Tigers a 2-0 win.
