Tigers win time-of-possession fight, but lose gridiron clash to Center

KANSAS CITY – Usually, the time of possession provides an idea of the winner of a football game. That was not the case, however, when Excelsior Springs played Center Sept. 18. The Tigers had more than triple the time of possession of the Yellowjackets, holding onto the ball for nearly 39 minutes. But three big plays by the Yellowjackets helped Center down Excelsior Springs 22-18 in Missouri River Valley Conference West Division action. The Tigers fumbled the ball away on the second play from scrimmage, giving the Yellowjackets the ball on the Excelsior Springs 20-yard line after just 42 seconds had elapsed. Excelsior Springs prevented Center from scoring, holding the Yellowjackets on fourth-and-goal from the 4-yard line. Excelsior Springs staged a 10-play, 96-drive, capped off by a 55-yard TD run down the sideline by junior quarterback Dacey Hall to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead.
