Varsity softballers work to mesh quickly
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Varsity softball coach Megan Rawie expects her Tigers to find a groove quickly, a must during a high school season.
“Building chemistry the first few weeks of practice, (as) opposed to waiting until mid-season, will be a challenge for us, since the season goes so quickly,” Rawie said.
Experience might help build that chemistry. The Tigers return nine players who saw time on the field last season.
Seniors Jordyn Pekarek, Avory Moore, Aracely Lopez, Ariana Reynolds and Mallory Millsap will lead the Tigers. Pekarek will look to resume patrolling center field, with Moore starting at third base and Lopez at first base, and Reynolds seeing time at first, third and designated player.
In addition, junior Karli Shipman, a 2020 all-region selection, will return for her third season as the starting shortstop. Shipman led the Tigers in batting average, .431, last season.
