Youth give Danneman optimism for football program’s future

Jake Danneman likes where Excelsior Springs’ varsity football program is headed as he transitions into his second year as head coach.One reason for Danneman’s optimism is the latest camp he directed.Held May 27-30 for grades 7-12 at Tiger Stadium, with separate sessions provided for grades 7-9 and 10-12, the camp drew about 65 middle schoolers and incoming freshmen, Danneman estimated. The coach could see their potential as he worked with them on various skill drills and watched them run plays in 7-on-7 sets.“They’re an extremely talented group,” he said. “They’ve got size, they’ve got speed – this younger level – and they’ve got numbers, which always helps.
