EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Celebrating their 100th birthday, the American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring the 79th Session of the ALA Missouri Girls State. Girls State takes place on the campus of the University of Central Missouri from June 21 to 27. This program is made possible by the contributions of Soroptimist International of Liberty and various fundraisers throughout the year. The young ladies attending from Excelsior Springs High School are Alyssa Buhrman and Emily Milledge. The young lady attending from Liberty High School is Paige Hodges and from Liberty North High School is Isabella Eddy. Delegates are selected by the American Legion Auxiliary Units working with schools that assist in evaluating the potential leadership qualities of the candidates. Missouri Girls State is a citizenship education program which offers training in the process of self-government and good citizenship as practiced in a democratic system.
