Keith Bass II, 48, has been charged with first-degree murder, two charges of armed criminal action and first-degree assault of a special victim after allegedly murdering Theresa Bass and attempting to kill Bobby Neal Jr.

The defendant’s bond has been set at $1 million. Arraignment and further legal action will occur after his extradition from Floydada, Texas, to the Clay County Detention Center in Liberty.

At around 12:11 a.m. on Sept. 7, Excelsior Springs Police Department officers responded following a call to 911 about a shooting. Theresa Bass and Neal were found with gunshot wounds at the scene and taken to an area hospital.

Theresa Bass died around 12:35 a.m. Neal remains in critical condition.

At around 1 p.m. Sept. 7, Keith Bass II was arrested in Floydada after turning himself in to the police. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for extraditing Bass from Texas back to Clay County.

“We are going to be going down there in the next few weeks,” said Sarah Boyd, Clay County Sheriff’s Office public relations manager.

Boyd said the department is still deciding how to extradite the subject. Extradition “typically (costs) about $2,500$3,500,” which covers two fugitive apprehension deputies’ travel, lodging, food and expenses for the round trip, she said.
