EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Superintendent Dan Hoehn recommended the Excelsior Springs School District reevaluate the size of summer school programs in 2022. Hoehn, who will retire in June, made his recommendation during the Board of Education’s April 12 meeting following a report by Anneliese Tadlock. The district’s summer school director, Tadlock shared news on enrollment for the 2021 programs the board had approved in March. The district has invited 120 elementary students to attend summer school, with plans for 10 classrooms, Tadlock said. Student responses “are trickling in,” she said, adding she felt “pretty good” about capping enrollment at 170 students to “keep those class sizes small.” Tadlock also said the rollout of invitations for high school students to attend summer school had begun.
