Broadcast students seek journalism insight

Two Kearney High School (KHS) students made their way to Richmond News’ headquarters for their broadcasting classes recently. KHS senior Cody Hoessel, 18 and junior Ella Conway, 17, stopped by to film behind- the-scenes footage of the newspaper being printed and to ask questions. The printing press in Richmond prints both the Richmond News and the Excelsior Springs Standard newspapers. KHS Career Readiness Coordinator Stacy Holtzclaw said the students chose journalism as one of the local careers they wanted to learn more about. “My goal for the students was for them to gain an understanding of journalism as a career and see the possibilities associated with it,” said Holtclaw. Hoessel and Conway had the opportunity to be on the podcast “Ray County Voices” with sports editor Shawn Roney about broadcasting and journalism.
