Business owners come together
The Excelsior Springs West Side Committee recently hosted a get-together to bring property and business owners up to date on the Community Improvement District’s (CID) one-cent sales tax that goes into effect Oct. 1.
The new one-cent sales tax will go toward improvements in Excelsior Springs along highway 69 from the Waller subdivision to Crown Hill Road and from the McCleary Industrial Park along Jesse James Rd. extending past Allen Heights.
Businesses will pay their normal due taxes to the state of Missouri and the state will redirect one cent, sending it back to the CID to begin working on improvements, including infrastructure, security, streetscape, burying power lines, roadway improvements, parking lots, snow removal, walking trials, broadband internet, banners and more.
Brian Rice, Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce president, explained that because businesses usually pay their taxes quarterly, CID may see funds Dec. 1 or at the latest, Jan. 2024.
