Buzzing with bees
The Midwest Master Beekeeper program, developed by entomologists and beekeepers with decades of experience, is designed to train and educate people interested in becoming a certified master beekeeper or for those simply interested in learning about bees.
The program started in 2015 at the University of Missouri and transitioned to a nonprofit organization in 2017, with a mission to increase the honeybee population in the U.S.
“The idea behind this program is to develop standardized education that is more comprehensive than regular beekeeping classes offered,” said president and Missouri board member Dr. Moneen Jones.
The Midwest Master Beekeeper Program is designed to train and educate beekeepers on potential problems, equipment, techniques and tips to improve their personal beekeeping skills, as well as topics on taxonomy, biology, botany, genetics, pesticides, diseases, pests and economics.
