CAP attracts families to play cornhole

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Community at Play, or CAP, hosted a “Cornhole Family Fun Day” on May 21. “The population of individuals with developmental disabilities was growing in Ray County, but the community connectedness and awareness was not,” Suzan Breen said. “CAP was developed to bridge that gap.” Breen is the executive director of Special Needs Services of Ray County, which oversees CAP. The Special Needs Services of Ray County has been active for six years. Although a cloudy and cool day, with an 80% chance of rain, the event attracted around 30 people, Breen said. The event included cornhole and Wabash BBQ. CAP has hosted other events, such as Dungeons and Dragons, and the Next Chapter Book Club. The next event that CAP is hosting is Board Game Bonanza from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 13 at the Eagleton Center in Richmond. CAP is “a program which brings together people of different ages and abilities to participate in community events and develop active interests,” its brochure states…
