Center eyes money to renovate, be competitive

Parents of Excelsior Springs Career Center students might breathe easier about sending their sons and daughters there for career and technical education (CTE) training, based on some news shared during the latest Board of Education meeting. Ben Rubey, center director, told district leaders Sept. 12 at the Support Services Center that about $25,000 would be available as recompense to parents with students taking CTE classes at the center. The money is available through the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund II, made available by the federal government to the states. “So in essence, the state provides the reimbursements … (and) the school district acts as … (the) vehicle for doing so,” Mark Bullimore, Excelsior Springs School District director of communications, stated Sept. 19 via email. “Each school district receives an allocation of money from the state to use in this endeavor – if parents don’t use it, the state keeps it.” Expenses eligible for recompense…
