The suspect who was apprehended by ESPD at the scene of a shooting outside an Excelsior Springs convenience store has now been charged.
Clay County Court on Thursday issued a warrant charging Dylan G. Townsend, 25, from Excelsior Springs with First Degree Assault, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Townsend's bond is set at $500,000.
The shooting took place Wednesday afternoon at the Quick Stop II Convenience Store at 1900 W. Jesse James Road. When police arrived, Townsend was still at the scene and was taken into custody without incident.
Witness testimony and video surveillance from the convenience store were reviewed before charges were made. At first, a UPS truck was thought to have been struck with the bullet of the shooter, but closer investigation revealed the damage to the truck was not in fact a bullet hole.
The victim, a 32-year-old male also from Excelsior Springs, is currently hospitalized at an area KC hospital with serious injuries.
