CITIES ADDRESS CONCERN ABOUT FUNDS

LIBERTY – Cities are cooperating with the county to receive $29 million in Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act funding, Clay County Presiding Commissioner Jerry Nolte said. Recipients include the city of Excelsior Springs, $1,060,243; and the Excelsior Springs School District, $249,333. Nolte said he talked with cities across the county to explain his concerns, except for Kansas City, which has a separate memorandum of understanding involving CARES Act funds to cover COVID-19-related expenses. The cities he talked with have agreed to stand accountable for any errors they might make in using the federal money, which eases his concern that the county could be held accountable for inadvertent errors, Nolte said.
